The Surprising Factor That Could Lead to Weight Loss Sabotage

I get uncomfortable because the comments tend to catch me off guard. They come from random people at random times. By the time I've realized what happened I don't know what to say. I agree the best is to just say "thank you" and move on. It's appreciation of the comment without engaging in conversation about your body. Another trick I use is to redirect the conversation to my workout plans. "You're probably noticing that I look different because I have been training for a half marathon. It's a big goal for me. Any tips?" Also, I dose of reality is not a bad idea either. I'm obese. And I was more obese when I started. I did this to look better (and be healthier and more fit). And now that I look better people notice it. Serious reality check: I was fat and now I'm less fat. Cool. Report

It's hard to learn to accept a compliment. Dale Carnegie had a whole class on that. Report

This was definitely a factor in the last time I went off the wagon. I'd lost 60 lbs and was getting more unwanted attention. I gained back half of that before I could pull myself out of those negative feelings. So I'm starting again and will hopefully be more mindful and handle things better. Report
