LETSGOPLAY: I did a Frank Medrano bodyweight program last summer. I continued with the circuits long after the program ended. I found the series to be quite male oriented; lots of pecs and virtually no glutes. I got into doing loads of different kinds of pushups but my hips and glutes were neglected.

This fall, I began a Kellie Hart Davis program. Her programs have everything to do with being female - it's all core, glutes, hips, abduction and adduction muscles. She is VERY clear and careful about alignment and breath. An old hip injury I've had for decades became, for the first time ever, pain free!

I've listened to select Rich Roll podcasts. They are much too long for me. His interview with David Carter, the 300 Pound Vegan, ( www.300poundvegan.com/about/ ) was eye opening. David Carter was an active vegan whilst being a NFL lineman! He has since retired. Today, amongst other things, he is an animal rights activist.

HOLLYSTORMCLOUD: I looked up Jehina Malik. She is amazing! Vegan since birth!!!

Me, I practice a hot, power vinyasa flow yoga (Baptiste), almost every day. It is very physical and requires strength and endurance. Still, for me, the workout aspect of my practice is just one, almost incidental, piece of it. I've been practicing for 7 1/2 years now. I miss doing HIIT workouts, lifting, and ST circuit work. My problem is that my heated practice thourougly depletes me and it is difficult for me to add in some of this other stuff into my day. That is my challenge I guess.

My legs hurt doing the elliptical so I only did 30 minutes and 2 sets of intervals. It must have been from my lower body workout yesterday. I walked for an hour today. Walking is easier than the elliptical. emoticon emoticon

What motivates me is women like Jehina Malik.


Life long vegan and nearly 40 years old, she was the first vegan to earn the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitnesse's "Professional Bodybuilder" title.

Right now my goal is fairly simple: a minimum of 100 minutes a week of strength training. I have always been someone who does a lot of cardio and almost no weight training. I want to turn that around.

The Higdon plan starts 12 weeks before but the Hansons already has- today is supposed to be a 6 mile run.
I am going out to scoot- walk and run if I can as there is snow. I did rebound this morning for about 20 minutes just to get going
I will scoot this afternoon. I love being outside..and want to get it in today- as tomorrow we will have snow.

In response to what motivates me to get in shape:

I find the first hour on the elliptical is somewhat challenging but after that its great. I have done as much as 5 hours on my elliptical in one day and the only effect was that my feet hurt. I go somewhat slowly 20-25 revolutions per minute or 40-50 strides per minute, but I do it at a high resistance. I start out at 16 and then move up to 18 out of 22 total settings. I would go faster, but I really like studying while working out. I find that I concentrate better than when I sit in front of a computer, but not if I am trying to go fast. I spend about ½ hour doing interval training where I of course don’t study.

I thought that I didn’t like resistance training, but I have found that I really enjoy the video workouts I have been doing.

I would love to hear how it goes for everyone else!

I met my goal of doing 4 sets of 6 intervals on my elliptical. I met my goal of using the elliptical for 120 minutes. emoticon

I also met my goal of doing an 30 minute exercise video for lower body, called: Lean Lower Body: Lunges and More. emoticon

I have a race in June.
I'm going to follow a program that mixes Hansons and Hal Higdon's for Half marathon

I'd like to talk of what we do to stay in shape- get in shape.
Who motivates us?
Resources of motivation- podcasts etc..

Share races/triumphs.. maybe you tango? Dance. Zumba. Get pumped...

For ex.- I like to listen to Rich Roll. Scott Jurek motivates me.
One of the big reasons I am vegan is because I found recovery times after long run were much better. Actually I found as an omnivore I would get exertion headaches and I don't anymore

Anyway- this place is for all of us to play. Workout. Get in the groove.
