The Wellness Industry

Just read an article in the NYT's
"Smash the Wellness Industry"
And it really struck a nerve. Why is it that women especially spend so much time obsessing about our bodies? What we eat? How much we eat? How much we exercise? and if we fall short in our opinion, we beat up on ourselves.
As the author of the article notes, do we think men sit around talking about their bodies? Or the fact that they ate an extra French fry? Nope.
Thankfully many of us have moved on and some have embraced intuitive eating. Can't say that I've done that, but I have moved on from demonizing food and my body. Food is just that - it is a way to nourish and nurture our bodies. Exercise is just plain good for us. And if it turns out that living a healthy life results in achieving a healthy weight? Well, yay!
Let's embrace our true health and the beauty of our bodies and spend time with friends just enjoying each other!
