Contract Job - Ends In August

Wednesday, July 27, 2016

I know know... I'm terrible at blogging. Well, nothing much has been happening these past few weeks since I started a contract job in March. In fact, the past few weeks have been extremely busy. The inventory project was only slated for three months. I started in March and it ended in June. I am pleased to say that we came in slightly ahead of schedule on the project. The managers were delighted. They thought the team did such a good job that we were all asked to stay for another month. That was July. Well, what can I say. I think I may be a little too efficient. Not only did I help bring the inventory project in ahead of schedule, but this one as well.

They said they wanted this one done by the end of July. Well, we're not done. but, we are ahead of schedule to a point where they've decided to let three of the project techs go at the end of the week. The company is keeping one tech, plus me (along with their regular staff) to finish up the second project. We were both asked to stay until the end of August. So that is the good news. I did get asked to stay two extra months. I asked my supervisor if there was a chance I could be held on at the end of the contract. He replied that he would love to have me on, but there was no money in the budget. sigh.

That means I need to start looking for a new job. On the plus side, like I said, I at least still have a job for the next 4-5 weeks. That's a start. I knew taking this job meant the possibility that it might only last a few months. But, I took it because it got me off unemployment and I thought it might lead to something better. And it might yet. So, even though I know I'm going to be out of a job soon, I'm trying to stay optimistic as well as proactive.

I contacted the recruiter who got me this contract today. I told him that I need to find a new opportunity since this one is ending. I also said that I will be coming with some very good reviews and references. Even he said that he heard good things about me. I'm hoping that this contract leads to another good contract. I will say it, I'm a little depressed and disappointed this didn't work out better. I worked hard in hopes of being asked to stay on perm. It was not in the budget. So, now I'm going to finish the project as efficiently as I can just because I do take pride in the good work I do.

Plus, I need to stay busy. If I stay busy, I wont take a nose dive into comfort food. What's funny is that I tend to be the opposite of most people. When many people get stressed out, they eat. When I get stressed out, I lose my appetite. I get a knot in my stomach. Well, not going to worry too much. I am still working for at least four more weeks. I am contacting recruiters and I'll be applying for jobs. No wallowing in self pity. No need to because I know I did a great job and my supervisors told me so.

We'll see. Guess you folks will be seeing more job blogs over the next few weeks. At least I'll have something to talk about. LOL.

Thanks for listening

I'm glad that your current employers are extremely pleased with you. That will help immensely in finding more work. I KNOW that there will be something there for you.

Good luck with finding more work. Hopefully it won't take too long, and your references should help considerably.

While it absolutely sucks that you won't be staying on permanently, it sounds like you couldn't be departing on better terms and that is absolutely lovely in itself. I wish you much luck on your job search, but I doubt you'll need luck as it sounds like you are strong and extremely hard working.
