Trying to get back in the groove..Need support!

Friday, January 07, 2011

November and December didnt go so well for me...I was still exercising a lot but gradually seemed to be losing all my other good habits..including being active in Sparkpeople. Although I did sign in daily I didn't do much else most days..

I am trying to get back to my good habits and forgive myself if I can't get there all at once...Please share any suggestions you have...

I hope everyone is having a great New Year so far!

When I find myself losing my Spark, I sometimes try to find a new Spark friend or Spark team! Another thing that occasionally helps is getting in a small competition with just one other person (or two). It might not be a HUGE effort, possibly just a short competition on consistency, but it just seems to HELP somehow or another. And then build on that with another short, small competition, until I get back to where I'm into a groove and ready to reach out for higher challenges! (There's no shame in going back to the basics!)

That's right, small streaks add up to big things! When I first started, I set a goal of tracking my food everyday. I did that for a month before I even started fitness. Then the goal was moving 10 minutes a day, plus tracking. And it built up from there. You can do it!

I believe in making small changes so we don't overwhelm ourselves and burn out. Only make the changes you can live with. emoticon

I'm with Fitpris. If getting straight back into the groove is a lot all at once for you, I would suggest picking one thing, for instance getting your 8 glasses of water in, get back in that habit, then pick another, say a specific exercise you know you can manage and start working that in, and each week or so add something else to the collection.
It is great that you logged in every day, and that your exercising stayed constant because that shows you haven't given up. You just got a tad side-tracked by the holiday season, and it can only improve from here. :-)
I'm glad to see you are still with us. :-)

You can do this!! Stay focused!!

Come on over to the Knee/Hip Replacement team and visit with us. We want to know how you're doing. It's hard to get back in the groove after losing motivation. Start over and take it slow...you can do this

I was at a workshop on disordered eating. One of the things that stuck with me is that the presenter talked about how we would have trouble about 20% of the time. She said that having a set back is not being set back. You have done well to stay connected to Spark and to keep your exercise routine alive. Glad to hear from you and all the best in 2011 with your adventure.

I agree picking one or two things to work on will work best. Don't try and change everything at once. Baby steps.
    Good luck on your journey.

Being perfect is not part of our makeup. We are only human. It's not always easy to pick our selves up and dust our selves off and start all over again.
But if we don't we stand still and what we need to do is move forward.
Here is a quote (author unknown) that I have used to get through some slippery patches. "You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there."
I've used this when one unhealthy day ends up to be a week. I'm convinced it's all in our attitudes to keep moving forward in our journey. Have a good day and remember one step at a time........one day at a time. emoticon

baby steps, what is the most important thing to you right now? Getting in 8 glasses of water , a healthy breakfast, eating more fruit and veg, no take out etc..

I'd say pick one of two and focus on those for a week or two then add another then another..hope that helps..best of luck :) I'd be happy to help you out.
